Solana – Abengoa
The Solana Generating Station is a 280-megawatt (MW) utility-scale solar thermal electric plant being built by Abengoa about 70 miles southwest of Phoenix near Gila Bend, Arizona. Solana will couple solar thermal electric technology with the ability to store energy during non-sunlight hours to better meet Arizona residents’ peak demand.
- Solana will provide clean, sustainable power for approximately 70,000 homes in Arizona.
- Thermal storage will provide up to 6 hours of dispatchable energy to be used after sunset or if cloudy.
- Construction has commenced, with over 70 percent of the construction components and products manufactured in the US, and operation is scheduled to begin in 2013.
